Using the power of hypnotic trance to enable people to overcome ingrained mental issues is probably one of the better known of the psychotherapies, but probably the least understood. Some people, upon hearing the word ‘hypnosis’ instantly conjure up images of people running around a stage clucking like chickens. Yes, the comical world of the stage hypnotist has provided many a laugh for audiences over the years and although both disciplines utilise similar techniques, stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy are quite different.

Put simply, hypnotherapy is the practice of inducing a trance in a patient and using this state as a conduit for change. This could be a lifestyle change, overcoming a fear, the eradication of an ingrained negative mind-set or a more serious issue - like gambling addiction, substance abuse and unwanted behaviours

The first session consists of the following five components

  1. In depth consultation to understand what specific challenges you are currently dealing with, what you feel the blocks are (if known), and what your desired outcome is from our sessions together.
  2. A description of how hypnotherapy works in the human mind for your specific issue and what you should expect to feel and experience while in hypnosis. We will also outline what will be happening in the next sessions.
  3. Suggestibility Testing - In order to best create the most significant and powerful changes in mental programming, it is of the utmost importance to understand how you personally take in suggestions and information. This testing allows us to know exactly what type of hypnotic suggestions can make the most impactful positive changes in your subconscious mind.
  4. Have any questions? This is your chance to find out whatever you'd like to know. Feel free to ask whatever you want, there’s no such thing as a stupid question - and the chances are we’ve heard it before.
  5. The last part of the first session is the therapy itself in which your subconscious reprogramming will begin. At this point, both parties make a commitment: Us, the therapy providers, to use our skills to help you achieve your goals. You, the client to comply with the clinical process and any suggestions made. Then there's the actual session that will lay the foundations for all future sessions, preparing the ground for overcoming any obstacles and embedding new goal oriented patterns to take hold effectively.
  6. Just before you leave, you will be given some daily mental exercises to do to reinforce that day's session and to prepare you for the next one. Just like going to the gym, a bit of homework inbetween visits can pay huge dividends. On completion of the course you will be given access to hypnotherap sound recordings to help you train your mind after going into the future.

The Full Program

At the start of each of the rest of the sessions there will be a catch up to note the progress. These subsequent sessions concentrate much more on the actual hypnotherapy. By then you will be familiar with the comfortable chair, the hypnotic process and the feeling of deep relaxation.

For most of the regular issues we recommend five sessions, each session offering the opportunity to go deeper and deeper into the subconscious and experience profound states of change. These experiences not only help build towards the client’s goal, they also have the effect of recharging the mind and reducing stress. This leaves clients feeling calm and confident.

How to get what you want from hypnotherapy

Before we go ahead with a hypnosis program, we always go through a few preliminary steps that are important for a successful outcome. The most important part of the whole process is for the therapist to understand what the clients desired outcome is. As with success and goal achieving in all areas of our lives, it always makes it easier when we have a clear target in mind.

This is fairly easy and there are simple and direct questions that are asked, such as: What do you want? Or, If after the hypnosis session something was different for you, what would the difference be for you? And the second question is, so at the moment what is stopping you from achieving that? These simple steps are the cornerstones of a successful outcome.
